Going to the dentist can often be anxiety-inducing, but it doesn’t have to be! At Canyon Dental, your dentist in Orem, Utah, we see children as young as one. It’s never too early to start forming good habits and relationships with your dentist!
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that you bring your child to see the dentist and establish a dental home by age one, or within six months of their first tooth erupting in the mouth. Generally, their first tooth will be visible in the mouth between six and nine months.
By bringing your child to the dentist at an early age, Dr. Bowen and our staff can start helping build positive relationships at the dentist, which helps reduce dental stress and anxiety for children as they grow. As they become accustomed to the dentist, they build proper habits for future oral healthcare.
A typical first appointment for a young child involves Dr. Bowen, the parent(s), and child. Dr. Bowen will count the teeth, check timing of tooth eruption, looks for any symmetrical discrepancies, and evaluate for any signs of tooth decay. While we strive to achieve all of the above at the first appointment, our main goal is creating a positive experience for the child and detecting any major concerns.
Dr. Bowen has extensive experience in treating children, including two of his own! We make every effort to make your children feel comfortable and at home in our office. We have TVs and headphones in every room to make your child’s experience at Canyon Dental the best!
