At Canyon Dental, our primary focus is to prevent and maintain healthy teeth and gums. In order to do that, it is recommended that you have regular dental exams, x-rays, and cleanings at your dental office.
Your mouth is amazing-and it gets amazingly dirty! Did you know that just five minutes after eating, the bacteria in your mouth start to breakdown the food you ate and produce acid? The acid produced by these bacteria is what causes gum disease and tooth decay. For those reasons, it is important to brush and floss your teeth at least twice per day!
Canyon Dental recommends x-rays at each dental exam. X-rays have come a long way, and the x-rays that we use emit less radiation than you would be exposed to just walking outside! X-rays help us identify early problems and take the necessary corrective actions before they turn into bigger problems down the road.
At your dental cleanings, our hygienists use specialized instruments called ultrasonic or piezo scalers. These use carefully equilibrated sonic movement to help clean the plaque and tartar (calculus) from your teeth in a safe and effective manner. It also helps reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth, which helps prevent future gum disease.
During your exam, Dr. Bowen will carefully examine your head and neck area, jaw, gums, teeth, and perform an oral cancer screening. He will also use a Diagnodent, a laser-based instrument that aids in checking for tooth decay and is over 90% accurate.
After your exam, Dr. Bowen will talk with you and discuss any needed or potential treatment. He will present you with different options and tailor your treatment plan to fit your individual circumstances. Don’t hesitate to ask any and all questions-he is more than happy to take as much time with you as needed.
