At your implant placement appointment, following the surgery itself, you will be prescribed the following:
- Chlorhexidine Antibacterial Mouthrinse
- Oral Antibiotic (typicall Amoxicillin, Clindamycin, or Augmentin
- Pain Medication
- Ibuprofen
It is imperative that you follow the exact directions for these medications. Any variance can compromise the health of your implant.
For the week after surgery, avoid chewing on the implant site or disturbing the sutures. Avoid smoking and tobacco if at all possible, as these are large contributors to implant failure. Continue taking any and all other medications prescribed to you by your physician, in addition to the medications prescribed by Dr. Bowen.
There are varying levels of discomfort following implant placement. Most patients return to work the day following their appointment and experience minimal discomfort. Ibuprofen 600-800 mg, in combination with Tylenol or a prescribed pain mediation, will be adequate for controlling and post-procedure pain.
